One of my favorite iOS education apps is NEWSELA. For the past two years I've utilized this incredible app in my alternative classroom at MSJ. We don't have to be reminded that as technology becomes the gateway to provide engaging material and collaborative classroom work groups, technology should also provide scaffolds to assist this active participation (Cennamo, et al., 2009). I find that NEWSELA provides the stimulus to enlighten critical and creative thinking in the alternative environment.
NEWSELA allows me to develop great plans to set goals for authentic learning and student success-becoming a daily ritual for validating classroom instruction. NEWSELA becomes the common denominator in developing self-directed learning through technology.
One of the advantages of NEWSELA is that it is compatible both on classroom and students' cellular devices. Teachers set up their classrooms, and can even import their Google Classroom rosters. Students login easily using their PSUSD account information. NEWSELA provides a robust Learning and Support platform for new adopters and students., and gives both the ability to access their work offline. Articles are available in Spanish and English from the vast NEWSELA database, allowing students and teachers to view and understand the data.
NEWSELA gives my students the opportunity to discover the joy of reading again - they love to track their progress and have a better understanding of the reading that occurs in their other classes. Please spend some time exploring this app so you can bring the benefits of NEWSELA to a classroom near you. Please use the embedded link to access a video describing how NEWSELA Pro works:
